New Delhi:26/07/2016

Dengue has emerged as a major public health problem since last few years. To create more awareness on the disease, the Government of Delhi has issued advertisement in all leading Newspapers regarding the prevention and control of Dengue.

In Delhi 90 cases of dengue were reported till 23.07.2016, out of which 38 are from Delhi and 52 are from outside Delhi.

Delhi Govt has taken necessary actions for prevention and control of Dengue. A dedicated Dengue control cell has been established at DHS to conduct Dengue Related activities. Previous year’s data has been analysed and High Risk areas have been identified and shared with local bodies to take necessary preventive measures in those areas.

All establishments including government/private hospitals are directed to identify a Nodal Officer to ensure that there is no mosquito breeding in the premises. Fever corners have been established at all Govt Hospitals (33 hospitals), dispensaries (262)and Mohalla clinics (106) . All medical and paramedical staff have been sensitized regarding prevention and management of Dengue. Dedicated dengue beds have been earmarked in hospitals. Adequate quantity of Dengue diagnostic kits NS1 Ag (ELISA based) & MAC ELISA have been provided to all sentinel surveillance hospitals.

Orders have been issued to put a cap on the rates for platelet count test at Rs.50 and NS1 Elisa test at Rs 600. Directions have been issued to hospitals to arrange adequate quantity of logistics (Beds, bed nets, IV fluids, medicines etc). Flow charts of National Clinical Guidelines for classification, diagnosis and management of Dengue issued by GOI, have been printed on flex sheets and distributed to all govt Hospitals, DGDs and Mohalla Clinics to be displayed at prominent places in the hospitals.

All Govt /Private hospitals have been directed to admit Dengue cases on priority basis, and to ensure that no patient is denied for admission.

A workshop was organised on 24.07.2016 to sensitize doctors of Mohalla clinics and polio coordinators regarding Dengue control and management at Delhi Secretariat. IEC corner was installed for dengue awareness campaign with demonstration of various stages of Aedes mosquito and distribution of IEC material.

Meeting was held with Representatives from Resident welfare associations from all over Delhi to involve them in Dengue control activities.

At this point of time more emphasis should be on prevention of Dengue by controlling the mosquito breeding since majority of the mosquito breeding takes place in fresh water collected in plastic containers, broken bottles, plastic overhead water tanks, cement tanks, water coolers, tyres, flower pots, trash etc.
There will also be involvement of school children of government/private schools and colleges. Stress on the point that awareness campaign should ensure active participation of citizens.
